Ambassador: Lukoil, Gazprom, Rosneft may work on Mexico fields
MOSCOW, Feb 16 (PRIME) -- Russian oil majors Lukoil and Rosneft and gas giant Gazprom are interested in participating in the development of Mexican fields, Mexico’s Ambassador to Russia Ruben Beltran Guerrero said in an interview to PRIME published on Monday.
A decision on the development of fields on the shelf of Mexico’s states Veracruz, Tabasko and Campeche will be done based on results of a tender which is to be launched in June, Beltran Guerrero said.
“Russia does not make significant investments in Mexican projects now. But there are signals from some companies, like Lukoil and Gazprom. They are interested in participation in the energy sector, and a decision will be made based on results of the tender,” he said, adding that Rosneft also expressed interest in the fields’ development.
Since December 2013, Mexico has reforming the energy sector, which allowed Mexican state-run oil company Pemex and electric power utility CFE to sign contracts with private companies and attract foreign investment for the first time in almost 80 years.
In January 2014, Lukoil and Pemex signed a cooperation agreement.
